SHORELINE IMPROVEMENTS
At long last the Algonquin Bridge repairs are complete and we are able to use our shoreline again. We made a plan for new canoe/kayak racks and with the assistance of islander Julian Ganton we ordered materials and planned out the placement of the new racks. In October a hearty group of volunteers completed the racks and they are ready to receive.
NEW PADDLERS!
Adult Safe Canoeing programs filled up quickly this summer. They were taught by ORCKA certified instructors and covered the basics for anyone just learning, or wanting to brush up on skill. Paddling is a lifelong pursuit that can be enjoyed at almost any age. The quiet waters of the Island lagoons make TICC an ideal place to start your paddling adventure! Part of our outreach last winter connected us with a group of Afghan refugee women and we managed to fit in a course with them at the end of July. None of the women had ever been in a canoe before! The group were really excited to experience this, and they had a great time.
LAGOON PADDLES FOR COURSE GRADS
One of our members stepped up to lead lagoon tours for our graduates from our summer courses. We held canoe tours on three consecutive Saturdays and fun was had by all. The process has begun to revitalize our shoreline.
CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER CANCELLATION
The car ferry, Ongiara, is out of service until late December. This, and other factors, influenced the decision to cancel our annual Christmas Tree sale. We thank everyone who has supported the sale in the past... we hope be back when things return to "normal" in 2024.
2024 PLANS
In keeping with our Strategic Plan we plan to introduce more ORCKA Instructor training and Learn To Paddle sessions.
